Free LPG: Great news for women before Diwali! Gas cylinder payment will be credited directly to their accounts

LPG cylinder prices have risen over the past few months, significantly impacting the common man's pocketbook. However, there's good news for female beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme in Uttar Pradesh. To reduce gas cylinder prices during Diwali, the Yogi government is offering a free LPG cylinder scheme. Under this scheme, eligible women will receive a subsidy deducted from their bank accounts. This could provide significant financial relief to women during the festive season.

19 million women will benefit.
The Uttar Pradesh government has reportedly approved free LPG cylinder refills for two festivals, Holi and Diwali, to eligible beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in the financial year 2026-27. The government has allocated ₹2,142.78 crore for this purpose. Approximately 19 million women beneficiaries in the state are expected to benefit from this scheme.

How will the cylinder money be credited to the account?

To benefit from the Ujjwala scheme, women must first book a gas cylinder from Indane, Bharat Gas, or Hindustan Petroleum. They must then pay the full amount upon receiving the cylinder delivery. Subsequently, the government will deposit the subsidy amount into the eligible beneficiary's bank account.

The central government provides Ujjwala beneficiaries with a subsidy of ₹300 per refill for up to 12 cylinders per year. Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh government provides separate benefits for Holi and Diwali.

Requirements to avail the scheme:
To avail the scheme, the beneficiary must be a female Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana connection holder. The gas connection's e-KYC must be completed. The Aadhaar card must be linked to the bank account. The bank account must have DBT enabled. The gas cylinder booking receipt should be preserved.
