Flagship EV Unveiled: Mercedes-Benz EQS Facelift delivers up to 926 km range; India launch expected by 2027

Global luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the updated EQS Facelift, its flagship all-electric sedan in the non-Maybach portfolio. The latest version brings comprehensive upgrades across design, cabin technology, and powertrain, positioning it among the most advanced premium EVs currently available. The model is expected to arrive in India around 2027, as part of the brand’s broader electrification roadmap.

The exterior retains the signature coupe-like silhouette that defines the EQS, with a drag coefficient of just 0.20 Cd, underscoring its aerodynamic efficiency. However, the front fascia has been thoroughly redesigned, now featuring a more prominent grille panel with an integrated Mercedes emblem. The updated Digital Light headlamps stand out as a major highlight, capable of projecting illumination up to 600 meters ahead, significantly enhancing night-time visibility. Subtle yet impactful changes continue across the body, including a revised front bumper with larger air intakes and chrome accents, while the rear gets a refreshed bumper, a more pronounced diffuser, and a new connected LED tail-lamp signature. A ducktail spoiler and chrome detailing further elevate its premium appeal.

Inside, the EQS Facelift takes luxury a step further with upgraded materials and a refined cabin layout. A notable addition is the new steering system featuring steer-by-wire technology, which improves driver visibility and control by removing the traditional mechanical linkage. The cabin continues to feature the expansive Hyperscreen setup, which integrates three displays under a single glass panel, including the driver display, infotainment touchscreen, and a co-passenger entertainment screen. These are powered by the brand’s new MB.OS software architecture, supporting over-the-air updates and enhanced digital functionality. The AI-powered MBUX Virtual Assistant adds a layer of intelligent interaction, making the driving experience more intuitive.

Rear passengers are also well catered for, with dedicated 13.1-inch entertainment screens that enhance comfort during long journeys. The sedan also introduces advanced driver assistance features such as evasive steering support, diagonal parking assist, and improved lane-keeping systems. Additional features like a HEPA air filtration system and heated front seat belts contribute to both safety and passenger comfort, reinforcing its positioning as a high-end luxury EV.

On the performance front, the EQS Facelift is offered in multiple variants including EQS 400, EQS 450+, EQS 500 4MATIC, and EQS 580 4MATIC. Built on a new 800V architecture, the vehicle benefits from improved efficiency and faster charging capabilities. The EQS 450+ variant stands out with a claimed driving range of up to 926 kilometers on a single charge, making it one of the longest-range electric sedans globally. Battery capacities range between 112 kWh and 122 kWh, while power outputs span from 367 bhp to 585 bhp depending on the variant. The higher variants feature an all-wheel-drive system and now include a two-speed gearbox on the rear axle to optimize performance and efficiency.

Charging capabilities have also been significantly enhanced. The EQS Facelift supports up to 350 kW DC fast charging, enabling it to add approximately 320 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes under ideal conditions. Additionally, the air suspension system has been upgraded with cloud-based data integration, allowing the car to adapt in real time to changing road conditions for a smoother and more controlled ride.

Overall, the new EQS Facelift reflects Mercedes-Benz’s continued focus on innovation in the electric mobility space. With its extended range, cutting-edge technology, and refined luxury, it is expected to attract significant attention when it eventually launches in India, likely setting new benchmarks in the premium EV segment.
