Meta has launched special features across all its major platforms for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Users will now be able to enjoy live chat, match updates, football effects, and AI tools.
With the start of football's biggest extravaganza, the FIFA World Cup 2026, Meta has announced special features for its millions of users. Now, football fans won't be limited to just watching matches; they can also enjoy live updates, real-time discussions, special effects, and interactive features on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Threads. Meta says these new tools aim to bring fans closer than ever to the players, teams, and matches during the tournament.
Live football experience will be available on Threads
Meta is preparing to make Threads a major platform for football discussions during the FIFA World Cup 2026. The new Live Chats feature on the platform will allow users to participate in real-time conversations before, during, and after matches.
Many prominent football figures will also be part of these live sessions. Additionally, a dedicated football community is being created on Threads, where fans can access live scores, player posts, match reactions, and the latest tournament activity.
A special World Cup hub will be available on Instagram
Instagram users are also getting a major update. A dedicated World Cup section is being added to the platform, bringing together Reels, Stories, player posts, and broadcaster updates in one place.
Instagram Direct Messages will also feature a new "Goal!" voice effect. When a user sends a voice message with this effect, football-themed animations will appear in the chat, making the conversation more fun.
Football Mode will be available on Facebook
Facebook has also introduced a new Football Mode for football fans. Activating it will give users access to special football reactions, surprise features, and a mini-game.
Meta has also added an AI-powered "Wear It" feature, allowing users to virtually try on their favorite national team's jersey and share that image as a profile photo, story, or post.
Match updates will be available on WhatsApp and Messenger
Messenger has introduced a Live Updates feature to ensure users receive continuous updates in group chats during matches. This feature will provide information about goals, red cards, and key match moments directly in the chat.
The football emoji on WhatsApp is being replaced with the official match ball used in the tournament. New sticker packs, video call effects, and a dedicated directory of football-related information will also be available.
Preparations are also underway to protect against ticket scams and fraud.
Cases of online fraud and fake ticket sales increase during major sporting events. Meta has also strengthened its security measures. The company will display warning messages and security notifications across its various platforms to help users avoid ticket scams, fraud, and online harassment.
Meta's big bet for football fans
Meta aims to transform all of its key platforms into one massive digital football hub during the FIFA World Cup 2026. Through live chat, real-time updates, AI features, and interactive tools, the company is preparing to provide fans with an even more immersive experience. More new features from Meta are expected in the coming weeks.
