FASTag users, check this now! These simple mistakes can block your toll payments

FASTag has made highway travel much easier, but many vehicle owners still face problems at toll plazas because of low balance, incorrect vehicle details or a blocked FASTag. Before starting a long journey, checking a few important things can help you avoid unnecessary delays.

Check your FASTag balance before travelling

The first thing you should do is check whether your FASTag has sufficient balance. A low balance can cause payment failure at the toll plaza and may force you to make alternative payment arrangements.

If you are planning a long road trip, it is better to maintain some additional balance instead of adding money only when the account is nearly empty.

Make sure your FASTag is properly linked

Your FASTag should be linked to the correct vehicle registration number. If you have recently purchased a vehicle, changed its registration details or replaced a FASTag, verify that the information has been updated correctly.

An incorrect vehicle number can create problems during toll transactions and may also complicate the process of resolving failed payments.

Don't keep multiple FASTags on the same vehicle

Having more than one active FASTag on a vehicle can cause unnecessary confusion at toll plazas. If you have replaced an old FASTag, make sure the previous one has been closed or deactivated according to the issuer's process.

Keep only the FASTag that is currently valid and linked to your vehicle.

Check whether your FASTag is blocked

Sometimes a FASTag may stop working because of issues such as insufficient balance, KYC-related problems, vehicle details or account restrictions. If your FASTag suddenly stops functioning, check its status through the issuing bank's official app or website.

Do not wait until you reach a toll plaza to discover that your FASTag is inactive.

Keep your FASTag correctly placed

The FASTag should be fixed at the designated position on the vehicle's windscreen. Do not keep it loose inside the car or cover it with objects.

A properly installed FASTag allows the toll-plaza scanner to read it more reliably.

What should you do before a highway journey?

Before leaving, take two minutes to check:

  • FASTag balance
  • FASTag active status
  • Vehicle registration details
  • KYC status, if applicable
  • Whether your old FASTag has been deactivated
  • Whether the tag is properly attached to the windscreen
  • SMS or app notifications for recent toll deductions

A quick check before starting your journey can prevent unnecessary delays at toll plazas and make highway travel considerably smoother.
