FASTag has made toll payments quicker, but many drivers only pay attention to it when they reach a toll plaza and discover that something isn't working. A low balance, an inactive tag or incorrect vehicle details can turn a smooth journey into an unnecessary delay.
Before your next long drive, take a few minutes to check these important FASTag-related details.
Check your FASTag balance
Make sure there is sufficient balance in your FASTag account before starting your journey. A low balance can result in payment problems at toll plazas, particularly when you're travelling through multiple toll points.
Keeping some extra balance is better than waiting until the last moment to recharge.
Check whether your FASTag is active
A FASTag may stop working because of issues such as KYC-related restrictions, account problems or damage to the tag.
Check your FASTag status through your issuing bank or the relevant FASTag service before travelling.
Make sure the FASTag is properly attached
The FASTag should be fixed correctly on the vehicle's front windscreen as instructed by the issuer.
Don't keep the tag loose inside the car or carry it in your wallet. The toll system needs to read the tag properly when you approach the toll lane.
Check your vehicle details
Make sure the registration number associated with your FASTag is correct. If you've recently purchased a vehicle, changed its registration details or replaced your FASTag, verify that the records have been updated.
Incorrect information can cause unnecessary payment or account-related problems.
Don't use multiple FASTags on the same vehicle
If you have replaced an old FASTag, make sure the previous tag has been properly closed or deactivated where required.
Keeping multiple active tags for one vehicle can create confusion during toll transactions.
Keep your registered mobile number active
Your registered phone number is important because transaction alerts, recharge confirmations and other FASTag-related communications may be sent to it.
If you've changed your mobile number, update your details with the FASTag issuer.
Check transaction alerts after travelling
After crossing toll plazas, review your transaction messages or FASTag account. This helps you notice unexpected deductions quickly.
If you find a transaction that you don't recognise, contact the issuing bank or FASTag service provider and raise the issue through the appropriate channel.
A two-minute check can save you trouble
FASTag is designed to make highway travel easier, but it works smoothly only when the account, tag and vehicle details are properly maintained.
