Starting today, the central government has introduced a new annual concessional pass for local residents living within a 20-kilometer radius of a toll plaza. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has amended the rules for the FASTag annual pass.
The government has taken a major step, setting a one-year fee of ₹1,500 for toll plazas located outside municipal or local towns, and ₹3,000 for toll plazas located within urban or local body limits. To take advantage of this central government facility, the vehicle must be registered for personal use and have an active FASTag.
If this happens, you will not get the benefit of the facility.
This amended rule of Fastag Annual Pass by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will not be applicable on those National Highways or Expressways where Closed User Fee System is applicable for toll collection. Whereas, if service road or alternative route is available, local people will not be able to avail the benefit of this facility. That is, not having an alternative route to avail the concession has been a big condition imposed by the Central Government. The facility of annual pass will be available only at the toll plaza for which the pass has been issued.
