Even My Wife Watched the Duleep Trophy Because of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Says Former India Captain

Vaibhav Suryavanshi may be only 15 years old, but his performances are already attracting attention from some of the biggest names in Indian cricket. The young batter has made a strong impression in the Duleep Trophy, and his growing popularity has now been highlighted by former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth.

Srikkanth revealed that Vaibhav's batting was so exciting that even his wife tuned in to watch the Duleep Trophy, a tournament that many cricket fans do not regularly follow.

Srikkanth Praises Vaibhav's Popularity

Ahead of the Duleep Trophy final, Srikkanth spoke about the youngster's growing influence during a YouTube show.

He pointed out that the Duleep Trophy traditionally does not attract the same level of attention as international cricket. However, Vaibhav's presence has changed that for some viewers.

Srikkanth said that when Vaibhav came in to bat, they switched on the television, adding that even his wife watched the tournament because of the young cricketer.

According to the former India captain, Vaibhav is an exceptional talent who could play an important role in bringing greater attention to Test cricket.

Vaibhav Has Already Made His Mark

Vaibhav made his Duleep Trophy debut in the quarter-final against North East Zone. Although he managed only 8 runs with the bat, he immediately showed his all-round ability by taking two wickets in a single over.

His real impact came in the semi-final against Central Zone.

Sensational Semi-Final Performance

Vaibhav produced an impressive batting display in the semi-final, scoring 92 runs from 81 deliveries in the first innings.

The innings earned him a special place in Duleep Trophy history, as he became the youngest batter to score a half-century in the competition.

He followed that performance with another useful contribution of 40 runs in the second innings.

Across the two innings, Vaibhav scored 132 runs, making a significant contribution to East Zone's victory and their qualification for the final.

East Zone Return to the Final

East Zone's appearance in the Duleep Trophy final is itself a major development, with the team returning to the title clash after roughly 13-14 years.

Vaibhav has played an important part in their journey, and his performances have helped bring additional attention to the tournament.

Can Vaibhav Shine in the Final?

The Duleep Trophy final between East Zone and South Zone will be played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on September 6.

With Vaibhav already generating considerable excitement, all eyes will be on the teenager once again. His performances have shown that his age is only a number when it comes to his ability with the bat.

For a domestic tournament that often receives limited mainstream attention, having a young player capable of attracting viewers simply because he is batting is a remarkable development.
