Farmers across India have received an important update regarding one of the government's major income-support programmes. The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore.

For eligible farmer families, the scheme continues to provide direct financial assistance through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Farmers Get ₹6,000 Every Year

Under PM-KISAN, eligible landholding farmer families receive ₹6,000 per year. The amount is divided into three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each and transferred directly into eligible farmers' bank accounts.

The objective is to provide additional financial support for agricultural and household needs and help farmers manage expenses such as seeds, fertilisers and other farming inputs.

Scheme Extended Until 2030-31

The latest Cabinet approval means PM-KISAN will continue for another five-year period, covering 2026-27 to 2030-31. The government has approved ₹3.15 lakh crore for the continuation of the scheme.

This provides greater continuity for farmers who already receive the benefit and remain eligible under the scheme.

Who Can Receive the Benefit?

The primary eligibility criterion is ownership of cultivable agricultural land, subject to the exclusions specified under PM-KISAN. The scheme uses Aadhaar authentication and digital beneficiary verification to facilitate direct payments.

However, not every landholding farmer automatically qualifies. Certain categories are excluded based on the scheme's rules, so farmers should verify their individual eligibility before assuming they will receive an instalment.

Farmers can use the PM-KISAN portal's Farmers Corner to check beneficiary details and instalment payment information. A "Know Your Status" facility is also available to help farmers check their eligibility and payment status.

Those facing difficulties with registration, land records or name mismatches can also seek assistance through Common Service Centres and relevant government offices.

What If Your Name or Documents Have an Error?

Document mismatches can sometimes prevent an eligible farmer from receiving benefits. The government has provided multiple registration and grievance mechanisms to address issues involving land records and names.

Farmers can also use Common Service Centres if they do not have access to the required digital facilities.

Don't Fall for Fake PM-KISAN Messages

Farmers should be careful about websites, WhatsApp messages and phone calls promising an immediate PM-KISAN payment in exchange for money or personal information.

Do not share your OTP, ATM PIN, passwords or banking credentials with unknown individuals. For scheme-related information, use official government portals or authorised service centres.

The National Portal of India maintains official information about government schemes, including eligibility and application-related details.

A Major Direct-Benefit Scheme for Farmers

PM-KISAN has become one of India's major technology-driven welfare programmes, with payments transferred directly to beneficiaries rather than through intermediaries. According to the government, more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has been transferred through 23 instalments since the scheme was launched.

With the scheme now approved through 2030-31, eligible farmers can continue to receive the annual ₹6,000 support as long as they meet the applicable conditions.
