Legendary Pakistani singer Hasan Jahangir has revealed that the makers of the film Dhurandhar paid him $50,000 (around ₹45 lakh) to legally use his iconic song Hawa Hawa in the movie.
The song was prominently featured in the film during the entry scene of Sanjay Dutt, which became one of the memorable moments in the movie.
Hasan Jahangir’s revelation on a TV show
Hasan Jahangir recently made this claim during an appearance on the Ramadan show Shaan‑e‑Sahoor on ARY TV, hosted by Nida Yasir.
During the conversation, he said that a ₹300-crore film which later earned around ₹1100 crore worldwide had used his famous track “Hawa Hawa.” Though he initially did not mention the film’s name, the discussion later pointed to Dhurandhar.
When asked if he received payment for the song, Jahangir responded:
“Yes, they sent me 50,000 dollars. They paid me and took proper permission before using the song.”
Singer highlights copyright awareness today
Jahangir also spoke about how the music industry has changed over the years. According to him, when “Hawa Hawa” was originally released in 1987, there was very little awareness about copyright rules.
He explained that today producers and filmmakers usually seek permission and pay royalties before using his songs in films.
The singer added that he recorded the track in 1986, and it went on to become one of the most iconic pop songs in South Asian music history.
Fans now await Dhurandhar 2

The upcoming film features a star-studded cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun.
