Delhi Metro to Run Extra Trains Every Monday Under Fuel Saving Drive

In a major step toward promoting public transport and reducing fuel consumption, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has announced additional metro services starting May 18 under a new fuel conservation initiative.

The decision comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to reduce fuel usage by preferring public transportation over private vehicles. Following this appeal, the Delhi government and DMRC have started multiple measures aimed at cutting fuel consumption and easing road traffic pressure.

Extra Metro Services Every Monday

Under the new “Metro Mondays” campaign, DMRC will operate:

  • 6 additional metro trains every Monday
  • 24 extra train trips across the network
  • Additional services on other days if passenger numbers increase

The move is expected to help daily commuters traveling between major transport hubs including:

  • Railway stations
  • ISBT terminals
  • Airports
  • RRTS corridors
  • Noida Metro
  • Rapid Metro networks

Officials believe the improved connectivity will encourage more people to shift from private cars to metro travel, helping reduce traffic congestion and fuel dependency.

DMRC Makes Special Arrangements for Passenger Rush

To manage the expected rise in passenger traffic, DMRC has also strengthened security and station management arrangements across busy metro stations.

Additional facilities include:

  • Extra security personnel deployment
  • More ticket counters during peak hours
  • Additional baggage scanners and metal detectors
  • Faster frisking facilities
  • Better crowd management systems

According to DMRC, these steps are being taken to ensure smooth passenger movement and reduce waiting times during office rush hours.

Delhi Government Pushes Fuel Saving Measures

The Delhi government has also introduced several parallel measures as part of the broader fuel-saving campaign.

Key initiatives include:

  • “Metro Mondays” for government officials
  • Work-from-home option for employees twice a week
  • 20% reduction in official fuel quotas
  • Encouragement to use metro and electric vehicles for daily commuting

Authorities believe these combined efforts can significantly reduce fuel consumption in the national capital while also lowering pollution levels.

Public Transport Gets Major Focus

Experts say that encouraging metro usage can play an important role in reducing urban fuel consumption, especially in heavily congested cities like Delhi.

With rising traffic and increasing fuel costs, authorities are now focusing more on sustainable and efficient public transportation systems. DMRC officials added that they will continue monitoring passenger demand and may increase train frequency further if required.
