Cooler Not Cooling? Try These Simple Tricks for Instant Chilled Air

When summer heat peaks, even a cooler sometimes fails to give proper cooling. Many people assume the cooler is faulty, but often the issue lies in small things like dirty cooling pads, poor water circulation, or high humidity. Once basic maintenance is checked, a few simple home hacks can significantly improve cooling performance.
One effective method is using alum (fitkari). Adding a piece of alum to the cooler’s water tank helps purify the water. Clean water improves airflow through the cooling pads and reduces that sticky, humid feeling. When the water is dirty, it blocks proper evaporation, which is why the cooler starts blowing warm air instead of cool.
Placement of the cooler also plays a major role. If you keep it in a closed room, it will circulate the same hot air. For best results, always place the cooler near a window or door, with its back facing open air. This allows fresh air to enter, which is essential for effective cooling.
Another quick trick is to use ice. Fill bottles with water and a little salt, freeze them, and place them inside the cooler tank. Salt slows down melting, keeping the water cold for longer. As the pump circulates this chilled water, the air passing through becomes noticeably cooler.
You can also try a traditional method using a clay pot. Place a small earthen pot with tiny holes inside the cooler tank and position the pump inside it. Clay naturally keeps water cooler, and when this cool water flows over the pads, it enhances the cooling effect.
With these simple adjustments, even an old cooler can start giving much better and refreshing air, helping you stay comfortable during intense summer heat.
