With the rising popularity of induction cookers in Indian kitchens, choosing the right product has become more important than ever. As more brands enter the market, consumers are often tempted by price or features—but ignoring safety standards can prove costly. The government has now issued an important advisory urging buyers to check for a specific certification before purchasing an induction cooktop.
The key thing to look for is the BIS CRS Mark. This mark comes under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards. It is a mandatory certification for many electronic and IT products sold in India, including induction cookers. Products with this mark meet defined safety and quality standards set by the government.
The CRS mark is usually accompanied by a unique 8-digit registration number (starting with “R”), which confirms that the product has been tested and approved. Buying an induction cooktop without this certification may expose users to risks such as electric shocks, overheating, or even fire hazards.
One of the biggest advantages of choosing a CRS-certified induction is enhanced safety. These products are designed with proper insulation, reducing the chances of electric shock during use. They also include features like automatic cut-off when temperatures get too high, preventing overheating and potential accidents.
Another benefit is safer surface heating. Certified induction cooktops ensure that heat is transferred directly to the vessel, keeping the surrounding surface relatively cooler and lowering the risk of burns. Additionally, they are designed to be stable and sturdy, reducing the chances of utensils slipping or tipping over while cooking.
Efficiency is also improved, as certified devices focus heat directly on the cookware, saving energy and improving performance.
In simple terms, while buying an induction cooktop, don’t just look at price or brand—always check for the BIS CRS mark. It’s a small step that ensures safety, reliability, and peace of mind in your kitchen.
