Buying a New Laptop? These Are the Features Shoppers Are Paying the Most Attention To

Laptops have become an essential part of everyday life, going far beyond traditional office work. Students use them for online classes and studies, professionals rely on them for work, programmers use them for development, and creators depend on them for photo and video editing.

As a result, buyers are no longer choosing laptops based only on their design or price. Performance, processing power and newer technologies such as artificial intelligence are increasingly influencing purchasing decisions.

The second phase of Amazon's first Best in Tech Survey highlights this changing trend, with the processor emerging as one of the most important considerations for laptop buyers.

Processor Is a Top Priority for Laptop Buyers

According to the survey, the processor has become a major factor when people compare laptops.

The CPU is essentially the brain of a computer and plays a key role in everything from opening applications and handling files to multitasking and running demanding software.

For someone who regularly works with multiple browser tabs, documents, video calls and other applications simultaneously, a capable processor can make a noticeable difference in overall performance.

This is why buyers are increasingly checking processor specifications before making their final decision.

AI Is Changing What Buyers Expect From Laptops

Artificial intelligence is becoming another important consideration in the laptop market.

The survey found that 58% of laptop buyers believe AI-powered features could become highly useful for their everyday productivity in the future.

Meanwhile, 25% of respondents said they are interested in chips capable of processing AI-related workloads more efficiently.

Around 23% showed interest in using AI for content creation and editing, while approximately 17% were interested in features such as real-time transcription and translation.

These findings suggest that buyers are beginning to think beyond traditional computing performance. AI capabilities could increasingly become an important part of laptop purchasing decisions.

Tablet Buyers Have Different Priorities

Interestingly, people shopping for tablets appear to have different expectations.

According to the survey, the display was the most important factor for tablet buyers. Around 74% of respondents identified screen size and quality as a key priority.

In comparison, only 12% considered price their most important factor, while just 9% identified the processor as their top priority.

The difference highlights how consumers evaluate devices according to their intended use. Laptop buyers tend to focus more heavily on performance, while tablet shoppers place greater emphasis on the viewing experience.

Buyers Are Spending More Time Researching Laptops

Purchasing a laptop is also becoming a more carefully considered decision.

The survey indicates that many consumers spend a significant amount of time researching products before making a purchase. Nearly one in four buyers reportedly spends more than two months researching laptops.

During this period, shoppers compare specifications, features and prices while also looking at reviews and ratings from other users.

This shows that consumers are increasingly interested in understanding a product before spending their money rather than relying solely on advertisements or brand reputation.

Why Does the Processor Matter So Much?

The processor controls many of the fundamental operations performed by a laptop. A capable CPU can help applications run smoothly and make multitasking more efficient.

For example, a user may be watching a video, keeping several browser tabs open, attending an online meeting and editing a document at the same time. Processor performance can play an important role in how smoothly the laptop handles such workloads.

For office professionals, students, programmers and content creators, choosing the right processor can therefore have a significant impact on the overall user experience.

Laptop Buying Habits Are Changing

The survey suggests that laptop shoppers are becoming more informed and increasingly focused on long-term usability.

Instead of choosing a device simply because it looks attractive or falls within a particular price range, buyers are examining factors such as processor performance, AI capabilities, specifications, reviews and real-world usability.

At the same time, tablet buyers continue to place greater emphasis on display quality and size.

So, when buying your next laptop, don't look only at the price tag or design. Consider the processor, memory, storage, AI capabilities and other specifications based on the work you actually plan to do. The right combination of features can make a laptop useful for much longer and provide better value over its lifetime.
