BSNL Users Hit Hard: Validity Reduced on Many Plans, Making Them Up to 20 Percent Costlier Without a Price Hike

BSNL has quietly made several of its prepaid plans more expensive. While the company hasn’t officially raised the prices, it has reduced the validity of multiple popular plans, effectively increasing their per-day cost by up to 20 percent. At a time when tariff hikes are being discussed across the telecom sector, this move has come as a major shock to BSNL customers.

The validity cuts affect some of BSNL’s most-used prepaid plans: Rs 99, Rs 107, Rs 147, Rs 153, Rs 197, Rs 439, and Rs 879.

Plans become costlier without any price increase
As BSNL continues to expand its 4G rollout, its latest step is drawing criticism. The company has shortened the validity period of several plans, resulting in higher daily costs despite no change in the actual plan price.

Smaller plans hit the hardest
The Rs 99 plan has been reduced from 15 days to 14 days.
The Rs 107 plan sees the steepest cut—its validity has dropped from 28 days to just 22 days, making it about 20 percent more expensive.
The Rs 147 plan now offers 24 days of validity instead of 25 days, though it still includes unlimited calling and 5GB of data.

Mid-range plans also trimmed
The Rs 153 plan, which offers 1GB data per day and calling benefits, now provides 24 days instead of 25.
The Rs 197 plan’s validity has been reduced from 48 days to 42 days.
The Rs 439 plan, earlier valid for 90 days, now lasts only 80 days.

Long-term plans not spared
The Rs 879 plan, which previously offered 180 days of service, now provides 165 days. The plan includes unlimited calling and 24GB data, but the reduced validity significantly increases its effective daily cost.
