New Delhi : The prices of milk used in every household are going to fall soon. The government has recently decided in the GST Council meeting that packaged milk will be exempted from 5% GST. As soon as this decision is implemented, there will be immediate relief in the prices of milk of the country's largest milk producing brands Amul and Mother Dairy.

What is the purpose of this change?
This exemption of GST will directly benefit the common consumers as the 5% tax on milk will be removed. The purpose of this step is to make an essential commodity like milk more affordable amid rising inflation so that every family can get affordable and quality milk.

Current prices of Amul and Mother Dairy
Among Amul products, the full cream milk 'Amul Gold' is priced at around ₹ 69 per liter, while toned milk is sold for ₹ 57 per liter. Similarly, Mother Dairy's full cream milk is available for ₹ 69 and toned milk for around ₹ 57. Buffalo and cow milk prices are also between ₹ 50-75.

How much will the prices decrease after the removal of GST?
According to the government's plan, milk prices will decrease by about ₹ 3 to ₹ 4 per liter. For example, the price of Amul Gold will come down to around ₹ 65-66, while the price of Mother Dairy's full cream milk is also expected to come in the same range. Similar relief will be seen on toned milk and buffalo milk.

Which types of milk will become cheaper?
Amul Gold (full cream) – from ₹69 to ₹65-66
Amul Fresh (toned milk) – from ₹57 to ₹54-55
Amul Tea Special – from ₹63 to ₹59-60

Buffalo milk – ₹75 to ₹71-72
Cow milk – ₹58 to ₹55-57

Mother Dairy Full Cream – ₹69 to ₹65-66
Mother Dairy Toned Milk – ₹57 to ₹55-56
Mother Dairy Buffalo Milk – ₹74 to ₹71
Mother Dairy Cow Milk – ₹59 to ₹56-57

When will the new rule be implemented?
This decision of the government will be effective from 22 September 2025. After this, the prices of other packaged milk products including Amul and Mother Dairy will be fixed at the new GST-free rate, which will rapidly reduce the prices of milk in the market
