Smartphones have become a vital part of our daily lives these days. However, people often neglect their phone's safety. To caution these people, the government agency Consumer Affairs (Jago Grahak Jago) has released a post on its Twitter account, X, advising people to avoid using improper or cheap chargers.
Wrong charger can cause serious damage
According to a Consumer Affairs post, many people buy cheap, substandard chargers in an attempt to save money. These chargers don't meet any safety standards or carry any certification marks. Such chargers can pose a threat to your phone's battery, motherboard, and even your safety.
Which charger to buy?
The government agency has advised that consumers should always buy chargers marked with CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme).
- The CRS mark indicates that the charger has met safety standards.
- Using a charger without the CRS mark may damage the phone or cause accidents such as electric shock.
#ElectricalSafety #IndianStandards #BIS #ConsumerSafety #BISCareApp… pic.twitter.com/0r1vSy9M1d

How to identify a sub-standard charger?
Chargers that—
- Being sold under a fake brand name
- Does not have a certification mark (such as CRS),
- Made from poor quality components
- or a copy of the original charger,
They fall in the sub-standard category.
Dangers of sub-standard chargers
1. Battery Damage: Fast charging can reduce battery life or even damage the phone completely.
2. Motherboard failure: A wrong charger can burn the internal circuits of the phone, which is very expensive to repair.
3. Electric shock or sparking: Low quality chargers may cause short circuit or shock.
4. Risk of fire: In many cases, cheap chargers have even caused fire in the phone.
