Beware! A new scam has surfaced on WhatsApp: Don't reply with this, or your bank account will be empty in no time

Today, millions of people use WhatsApp, but along with it, new methods of online fraud are also emerging. Recently, a new and dangerous scam has surfaced, prompting the police to issue a stern warning to users. Let's explore what this scam is and how to avoid it.

What is this new WhatsApp scam?

According to reports, scammers are now using a new method to trap people. In this, users receive a WhatsApp message from an international or unknown number. If the user simply writes "NO" or replies to the message, their phone and WhatsApp account could be taken over by hackers.

The Telangana (Hyderabad) police and cyber cell have issued a warning, stating that such replies can activate malware on the phone, stealing all personal information. This can then lead to messages claiming money has been deducted from the bank account without even visiting an ATM or bank, and the account may become empty.

How to avoid this scam? (Preventive Measures)

Be wary of unknown numbers: Never reply (especially with 'Yes' or 'No') to any messages from unknown or international numbers.

Don't share OTP or password: Never share your OTP, PIN or bank details with anyone.

Use anti-virus software: Install a good anti-virus software on your smartphone that can block malware and dangerous viruses.

File a cyber-fraud complaint immediately: If you are a victim of any kind of online fraud, immediately lodge a cybercrime complaint by calling 1930 or use the official government portal/Sanchar Saathi app.
