Air Traffic Rules: Passengers will get help in the blink of an eye, Aviation Ministry has made a special rule, now speak your heart out openly

Indian Air Transport Act, 2024: The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has issued new rules for the investigation of aircraft accidents and air incidents. The new draft has been published in the Gazette of India under the name of Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2025. From the passengers' point of view, the new rule is being seen as a big step towards making air travel more safe. What do these rules mean for air travelers? Let's understand it in simple language.

The biggest concern of all of us while traveling by air is - safety. No one wants anything untoward to happen during the flight. The purpose of these new rules of the government is to prevent aircraft accidents and if any incident happens, then it should be properly investigated. These rules have not been made to blame anyone, but to avoid such incidents in future.

What is special for passengers?

Emphasis on safety: These rules will apply to all aircraft flying in India, whether they are Indian or foreign. Even unmanned aircrafts like drones will come under their purview. That is, every aspect of air travel will now be under more strict surveillance.

Fast investigation with immediate information: If an accident or serious incident occurs, the pilot, aircraft owner or operator will have to immediately inform the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the local administration. This means that passengers can get help quickly and there will be no delay in the investigation.

Protection of evidence: Strict rules have been made to keep the flight data recorder (black box) or other evidence safe at the accident site. No one can tamper with them without permission. This ensures that the investigation is transparent and the real cause is revealed.

International cooperation: If an accident occurs, the country where the aircraft was built, from where it flew, or where it is registered can join the investigation. This assures passengers that the investigation will be completely fair.

Data privacy: Flight recorder data will not be shared without permission. This will keep the personal information of passengers safe.

What are the concerns and expectations of passengers

As a passenger, everyone wants air travel to be not only convenient but also completely safe. These rules will assure passengers that the government is taking air safety seriously. However, passengers also hope that there should be no laxity in implementing these rules. Also, the process of sharing the results of the investigation with the public should be made more transparent, so that passengers know what steps are being taken for their safety.
