Aadhaar Users Alert: Check These 6 Details Before They Create Problems Later

Aadhaar has become one of the most important identity documents in India. It is used for banking, government services, mobile connections, income-tax-related work and several other everyday requirements. Because Aadhaar details are used so widely, keeping the information accurate and secure is equally important.

Many people, however, continue using their Aadhaar for years without checking whether their details are updated. A few simple checks can help prevent unnecessary problems.

Check your mobile number linked with Aadhaar

Your registered mobile number is important for receiving Aadhaar-related OTPs and completing online authentication.

If you have changed your phone number over the years, check whether the new number has been updated in your Aadhaar records.

Verify your personal details

Check your name, date of birth, gender and address carefully. Even a small spelling error can sometimes create problems when Aadhaar is used for verification.

If any information is incorrect, get it corrected through the appropriate Aadhaar update process.

Don't share your Aadhaar details unnecessarily

Aadhaar should not be shared casually with unknown people or unverified websites. Before submitting a copy, check why it is being requested and whether the organisation genuinely needs it.

When appropriate, you can also consider using Aadhaar's available privacy and verification options instead of sharing more information than necessary.

Use Masked Aadhaar when possible

A Masked Aadhaar hides the first eight digits of the Aadhaar number and displays only the last four digits.

It can be useful when an organisation only needs to verify your identity but does not require your complete Aadhaar number.

Check your authentication history

If you are concerned that your Aadhaar may have been used without your knowledge, check the authentication history available through official Aadhaar services.

This can help you identify when authentication took place and investigate anything that looks unfamiliar.

Be extremely careful with Aadhaar OTPs

Never share an Aadhaar OTP with an unknown caller, even if the person claims to be from a bank, government department, telecom company or another organisation.

A genuine-looking phone call can still be a scam. If someone pressures you to reveal an OTP immediately, stop the conversation and verify the request independently.

Keep your Aadhaar information updated

Aadhaar is not a document you should simply forget about after obtaining it. Whenever your address, mobile number or other important information changes, check whether your Aadhaar records also need updating.
