8th Pay Commission: Will the fitment factor remain below 3%? A major update on the 8th Pay Commission

It has been more than eight months since the Central Government formed the Eighth Pay Commission. During this time, the Commission has held meetings in various cities, including Delhi, Lucknow, and Kolkata, and has held discussions with employee unions, pensioners, and related organizations. The Commission is preparing its final report based on these discussions. However, no official information or decision has yet been released regarding salary increases, fitment factors, or other allowances.

Currently, the fitment factor is the most debated issue among central government employees and pensioners. Employee unions have demanded that the fitment factor be set between 3.83 and 4. However, some experts suggest that, given the current economic situation, the fitment factor could be between 1.90 and 2.10. Some believe that setting it above 2.30 may be difficult. Some economic experts have predicted a range of 2.27 to 2.86. The Commission has not yet provided any official information on this matter.

The previous Pay Commission is also considered when determining the fitment factor. The Sixth Pay Commission had a fitment factor of 1.86, while the Seventh Pay Commission set it at 2.57. At that time, the basic salary was increased from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000.

In addition, employee organizations have demanded an increase in house rent allowance (HRA) and transport allowance. Furthermore, they argue that the current HRA is insufficient in expensive cities like Delhi. Furthermore, changes have been demanded regarding dearness allowance (DA). Following the 25% DA, organizations have demanded that it be included in the basic salary. Currently, central government employees receive 60% dearness allowance, and the government previously announced a 2% increase.

Following the 25% DA, organizations have demanded that it be integrated with the basic salary. Currently, central government employees receive a 60% dearness allowance. The government previously announced a 2% increase. The central government will make a final decision on salaries, allowances, and other benefits only after the final report of the 8th Pay Commission is released. Therefore, any ongoing discussions are merely speculation, and staff are eagerly awaiting an official announcement.
