Yamaha is preparing to introduce a new motorcycle in India that will sit above the popular R15 in its sports-bike lineup. The upcoming Yamaha R2 is scheduled to make its India debut on August 27, 2026, and pre-bookings have already opened.
The booking amount has been set at ₹10,000, but there's an interesting benefit for customers who change their minds. Yamaha says the entire booking amount can be refunded, making the pre-booking option less risky for prospective buyers.
Book the Yamaha R2 for ₹10,000
Customers interested in the new Yamaha R2 can reserve the motorcycle by paying ₹10,000. According to the company, customers who decide not to purchase the bike will be eligible for a full refund.
The refund process is expected to begin after September 5, 2026. Buyers who complete their bookings before the official launch are also expected to receive priority during deliveries.
Engine could be slightly above 200cc
Yamaha has not yet revealed the complete technical specifications of the R2. However, reports suggest that the motorcycle could use a single-cylinder engine with a displacement slightly above 200cc.
The expected power output is around 25 bhp, although the final figures will only be confirmed by Yamaha.
The company is also expected to focus on keeping the motorcycle relatively lightweight. A lower kerb weight could give the R2 sharper handling and improve its performance.
For comparison, the KTM RC 200 weighs around 160 kg, while the Hero Karizma XMR has a kerb weight of approximately 163.5 kg.
R2 will sit above the R15
The upcoming Yamaha R2 is not expected to replace the R15. Instead, it will be positioned higher in Yamaha's motorcycle range.
The company could eventually streamline its existing R15 lineup. There is speculation that the R15 M may be discontinued, while the older R15 S could also be phased out gradually.
At present, the Yamaha R15 is priced in the approximate range of ₹1.57 lakh to ₹1.98 lakh, depending on the variant.
Yamaha R2 to be made in India
One of the significant aspects of the upcoming motorcycle is its manufacturing plan. The Yamaha R2 is expected to be manufactured in India, with production potentially serving both the domestic market and international markets.
