A bizarre murder case has emerged from Chikkahejjur in Mysore, Karnataka, where a woman named Sallapuri poisoned her husband, Venkatswamy (45), and then tried to divert suspicion by concocting an elaborate story of a fatal tiger attack. The shocking motive behind this deception was her desire to claim lakhs of rupees in compensation.

Initially, Sallapuri reported to the police that Venkatswamy had gone missing while they were working together in the paddy fields. She alleged that a tiger—recently spotted in the area—had attacked and dragged him away. Acting on this tip, both police and forest department officials launched a thorough investigation but found no evidence supporting an animal attack.

Their suspicions grew, prompting a search of Sallapuri’s residence. In a ditch behind the house, officials discovered Venkatswamy's body. Under intense interrogation, Sallapuri confessed to having poisoned her husband. She revealed that her fabricated story about the tiger attack was a calculated move intended to secure hefty compensation for tiger-related fatalities.
