The feature is currently being tested with a limited number of users, so it may not appear on every WhatsApp account yet.
Why is WhatsApp asking for your age?
The new feature is linked to India's Digital Personal Data Protection framework, which introduces additional requirements around the processing of children's personal data.
Under the testing process, some users may see a prompt asking them to enter their date of birth. The information can be used to determine the user's age category and apply appropriate protections.
Will everyone have to enter their date of birth?
