Deadline for filing ITR
The last date for filing salaried income tax returns (ITR-1 and ITR-2) for salaried and non-audit taxpayers is July 31. This means that salaried employees and those earning income from capital gains, house property, or other non-business income that does not require an audit will need to file the ITR-1 and ITR-2 forms.
HDFC credit card rules will change
The second quarter of the new financial year begins on July 1. To mark this occasion, HDFC Bank is making some changes to the rules of its Regalia Gold and Diners Club Privilege credit cards. In addition to some changes already implemented, new rules related to airport lounge access will come into effect from July 1, 2026. According to the new rule, starting July 1st, HDFC Bank Regalia Gold credit card users will have to meet a new spending threshold each quarter to receive domestic airport lounge access. Possible changes in the prices of LPG, CNG and PNG
As on the first of every month, on July 1st, oil marketing companies (OMCs) will review the prices of LPG, CNG, and PNG cylinders. Changes are expected in the prices of domestic and commercial cylinders. New rates will also be released for wind turbine fuel, which will have a significant impact on airfares.
PF can be withdrawn through UPI
Starting July 1st, withdrawing PF funds using UPI will be as easy as withdrawing cash from an ATM. The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is expected to launch its new digital platform, EPFO 3.0, in July. With the launch of this feature, EPFO subscribers will be able to withdraw their PF funds through UPI. Once the new system is implemented, withdrawing PF funds will take just minutes, not days.
Getting a passport will be expensive.
The Ministry of External Affairs has significantly increased passport fees for the first time in more than a decade. Under new rules effective July 1, the fee for a new or reissued 36-page passport will increase from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500, a direct increase of ₹1,000. Meanwhile, for Tatkal service, the fee will now be ₹5,000, up from the previous ₹3,500. The fee for a 60-page jumbo passport will also be increased to ₹6,000.
Changes in railway penalty rules
Starting July 1st, the penalty for traveling without a ticket will double. Under the new rules, the fine is being increased from ₹250 to ₹500. Furthermore, a man found traveling in a women's coach could be fined up to ₹2,500.
Aadhaar will be updated for free
In a major relief to citizens, UIADAI has made Aadhaar updates free for the next six months, starting July 1. Previously, it cost ₹75 to change the name, address, date of birth, mobile number, and email address in Aadhaar.
