What refund do you get if you cancel your RAC ticket after the chart is prepared? Learn the railway rules

RAC Rules: If your ticket is listed in RAC after chart preparation and you don't want to travel, will you get a refund? What are the railway rules? If you don't know, then find out.

RAC Rules:  Indian Railways transports millions of passengers daily from one city to another. Due to its affordable, convenient, and safe travel, most people prefer trains over other modes of transport. However, due to increased demand, seats on many routes fill up early. Consequently, passengers often receive waitlisted tickets.

Many times, after the chart preparation, the same ticket is converted to RAC. RAC means a reserved seat, but not a full seat, meaning half a seat. In such cases, two passengers have to share a single seat. Many people do not want to travel like this. This raises the question: if a RAC ticket is cancelled after the chart preparation, will the Railways provide a refund?

What are the rules for cancelling RAC tickets after chart preparation?

If your ticket is listed in RAC after chart preparation and you no longer wish to travel on that ticket, you can cancel it and receive a refund. According to railway rules, you must cancel your ticket at least 30 minutes before the train's departure or file a TDR.

TDR stands for Ticket Deposit Receipt. This is a type of online complaint or request in which you state that you did not travel and would like a refund. If you complete this process within the stipulated time, your amount is refunded after deductions as per railway regulations.

When will you not get a refund?

If you don't cancel your ticket or file a TDR in time, the Railways won't provide a refund. Therefore, it's crucial to be punctual. To file a TDR, first log in to the IRCTC website or app. Go to the "Booked Ticket History" option, select your ticket, and then file a TDR.

The entire process is online and doesn't take much time. Indian Railways is constantly improving its systems to minimize inconvenience to passengers. Having the right information can help you avoid losses and get your money back if needed.
