The government is taking a major step toward ensuring the education and financial security of girls in Delhi. Today, March 2nd, during a special event in the capital, funds from the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will be transferred to the accounts of thousands of girls. This event will also mark the formal launch of the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. The government says this initiative is not just about financial assistance, but also a major step toward providing girls with access to higher education and making them self-reliant.
President Draupadi Murmu will attend this event . Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that a large number of beneficiary daughters will receive funds directly into their bank accounts. So, let's explain the Delhi government's Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana and how much money will be deposited into girls' accounts.
How much money will come into the account of girls under Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana?
According to the Delhi government, 40,642 girls whose accounts have been registered under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will receive a total of ₹100 crore directly into their bank accounts. This amount represents the interest-bearing deposits made at various stages of their education. According to officials, this amount is not the same for all, as many beneficiaries were registered later rather than at birth. Under this government scheme, ₹56,000 will be deposited in each girl's name in different stages.
How did the Ladli scheme become the Lakhpati Bitiya scheme?
The Ladli Yojana, launched in 2008, aimed to ensure that daughters' education was not interrupted. Under this scheme, a fixed amount was deposited at birth, followed by installments in grades 1, 6, 9, 10, and 12. This amount could be withdrawn upon reaching the age of 18. This scheme has now been expanded and developed as the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. Under the new arrangement, a total of ₹56,000 will be deposited into daughters' accounts. After interest is added, this amount is expected to exceed ₹1 lakh by the age of 21. It should be noted that daughters will receive the maturity amount under this scheme only if they enroll in or complete a graduation or a recognized professional diploma.
Who will get the benefit of this scheme?
This scheme will benefit families with an annual income of less than ₹1.20 lakh and who have lived in Delhi for the past three years. To benefit from the scheme, the daughter must have been born in Delhi. A maximum of two daughters per family will be eligible. Registration can be done within one year of birth or within the prescribed educational stages. Furthermore, fulfilling the requirements related to higher education is mandatory.
