A new round of rain is about to begin amid the harsh winter in North India. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a powerful Western Disturbance is developing, which will impact much of North and Central India from January 22nd to 25th. Weather conditions are expected to be challenging over the next few days. Rain accompanied by strong winds will intensify the freezing cold.

1. Delhi-NCR: Hope for relief from pollution

Currently, people in Delhi are troubled by poisonous air (AQI 400-450).

Rain: Clouds will begin to move in from January 22. If it rains, pollution levels may decrease.

Temperature: The minimum temperature will be around 7°C and the maximum around 21°C. Fog and cold winds will persist.

2. Snowfall in hilly states (Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand)

Due to the new system activated in the mountains, there is a possibility of heavy snowfall and rain in the higher areas.

Jammu and Kashmir: Temperatures will remain below freezing in Gulmarg and Srinagar. Snowfall accompanied by strong thunderstorms will occur from January 22nd to 26th.

Himachal and Uttarakhand: Areas like Shimla, Manali, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh will experience winds of up to 50 km/h and snowfall. This will also increase the chill in the plains.

3. Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh

Change from Thursday: Light rain with clouds may start in many districts of Punjab and Haryana from Thursday.

Temperature: Amritsar and Pathankot will experience severe cold with the mercury hovering between 2.5°C and 4.5°C.

4. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

UP: More than 10 districts in western Uttar Pradesh (Noida, Meerut, and Saharanpur) are on alert for rain and strong winds. Lucknow will also remain cloudy until January 25th.

Bihar: Cold winds will blow at a speed of 45 km/h in many districts including Patna, due to which chill will be felt even during the day time.

5. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh

Rajasthan: “Maawath” (winter rain) is expected here. Lightning and rain are likely in Bikaner, Jaipur, and Ajmer divisions.

Madhya Pradesh: Cities like Bhopal and Indore may also see a drop in temperature due to the presence of clouds and light drizzle.
