Today is July 1st, and from today, the new rural employment scheme, Vikas Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Rural Act 2025 (VB-G Ram Ji), has come into effect in the country. On Tuesday, the central government issued a notification regarding the change in wage rates under this new scheme. According to the information, now the average wage under MNREGA has increased from Rs 298.8 per day to Rs 327.4 per day under VB-G Ram Ji. This means an average increase of Rs 28.6 per day.

according to media reports, the Ministry of Rural Development has increased wage rates in all 34 states, union territories, and wage zones. The government has set a new minimum wage of ₹300 per day, ensuring wages in no region fall below this level. The government says the increase is more than 10 percent on average across the country.
What are the changes?
Under this new law, eligible rural families will now get employment guarantee for 125 days instead of 100 days. The ministry informed that the new minimum wage rate has been increased to Rs 300 for 21 states and union territories. Whereas in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Assam, the wage rates will increase by 15 to 25 percent. Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland will see the highest increase of about 24.5 percent. In those states where the wages were already high, the increase has also been made. The old job cards will remain valid until new rural employment guarantee cards are issued.
