Why was the SIR deadline extended?
The SIR process in Uttar Pradesh began on October 27th. As scheduled, the draft voter list was released on January 6th, and the deadline for claims and objections was February 6th. However, a large number of applications were received during this period. Furthermore, matching voter data with various government records proved to be a complex and time-consuming process. For these practical reasons, the Election Commission decided to extend the deadline by one month.
