Two Powerful Full-Size SUVs Set to Enter India, Ready to Challenge Toyota Fortuner

February 2026 is shaping up to be an important month for the Indian automobile market, with two premium full-size SUVs scheduled to make their debut. MG Motor India and Volkswagen are preparing to launch the MG Majestor and Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, respectively—both positioned to directly rival established players such as the Toyota Fortuner.

Both upcoming models are seven-seater SUVs and are expected to be priced competitively, with starting prices likely to remain below ₹50 lakh.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is a three-row SUV based on the Tiguan platform. With the Tiguan R-Line discontinued in India, the Tayron will serve as Volkswagen’s new flagship SUV for the market. The model will be locally assembled using CKD kits, helping keep prices competitive.

Powering the Tayron R-Line is expected to be a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 204 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. According to the company, the SUV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 224 km/h.

In terms of features, the Tayron R-Line is likely to offer a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, head-up display, three-zone climate control, ventilated and powered front seats with memory, heating and massage functions, along with ambient lighting and advanced driver-focused technologies.

Pre-bookings for the Tayron R-Line have already commenced, with a token amount of ₹51,000, both online and at dealerships.

MG Majestor

The MG Majestor, showcased at the India Mobility Show 2025, is essentially a more premium and sportier iteration of the MG Gloster. The SUV is scheduled to launch on February 12, 2026.

While official specifications are yet to be fully revealed, the MG Majestor is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, delivering 216 bhp and 479 Nm of torque. The engine is likely to be paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The SUV’s design draws inspiration from the Maxus D90, which is sold in select international markets.

Inside the cabin, the Majestor is expected to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, three-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker sound system, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, and heated and electrically adjustable seats.

Competition in the Segment

Once launched, both SUVs will compete directly with established models such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster, intensifying competition in the premium SUV segment.

With strong engines, advanced features and aggressive pricing strategies, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line and MG Majestor are expected to significantly reshape the full-size SUV landscape in India.
