Recent developments regarding LPG gas supply across the country have drawn public attention. The increasing tensions internationally, especially in the Gulf countries, have had a mild impact on the supply chain. Meanwhile, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, clarified the situation, saying that there is no shortage of LPG in the country. However, there has been some slowdown in the distribution process, due to which consumers are taking longer than before to receive cylinders.
Regarding delivery timing, gas cylinders may now take slightly longer to reach homes. While previously, cylinders were delivered within 2 to 3 days, delivery may now take up to 4 to 5 days. This means consumers may have to wait an additional 1 to 2 days on average. Additionally, an OTP-based system has been implemented to make the delivery process more secure and transparent. Customers are advised to share their OTP only with authorized delivery personnel to avoid any fraud.
The real reason behind these delays in delivery is not a gas shortage, but consumer behavior. According to officials, in recent days, a large number of people have begun booking gas cylinders ahead of time as a precaution. This panic booking has led to a nearly 60 percent increase in total bookings, which has suddenly increased pressure on the supply network. This additional load has slowed the delivery process. However, this situation is not permanent and is expected to improve in the future.
As for booking rules, urban consumers are required to wait 25 days between booking a cylinder. In rural areas, this period is set at 45 days. This rule is applied equally to all consumers to ensure supply balance and timely access to gas for everyone.
The government has appealed to citizens to exercise restraint and avoid unnecessary bookings. According to officials, the country has sufficient reserves of LPG, as well as petrol and diesel, so there is no fear of any shortage. If consumers act wisely and avoid unnecessary panic, the supply system will continue to function smoothly and gas will continue to reach everyone on time.
