Bhopal Lift Incident: Rishiraj panicked after hearing his son's screams while he was stuck in the lift. He ran up and down the stairs, reached the generator room and tried to start the system. When the power came back, his son came out safely, but the panicked Rishiraj died.

In Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, a father died of a heart attack after his son got stuck in a lift. 8-year-old Devansh was stuck in the lift due to a power outage. While trying to save him, his father Rishiraj Bhatnagar died in panic. This incident took place in Royal Farm Villa Colony on Hoshangabad Road.

On Monday, May 26, around 10 pm, due to strong winds, the power went out in the colony. According to a report by NDTV , at that time, 51-year-old Rishiraj sent his younger son Devansh to the flat upstairs in the lift. As soon as Devansh got into the lift, the power went out and the lift stopped in the middle. Devansh panicked and started shouting loudly from inside the lift - "Papa... Papa..."

Rishiraj panicked after hearing his son's scream. He ran up and down the stairs, reached the generator room and tried to start the system. In about three minutes, the power came back and the lift started moving again. Devansh came out safe and sound. But by then Rishiraj had fallen unconscious. People present at the spot gave him CPR, then he was taken to the hospital. There the doctors declared him dead.

SHO Manish Raj Singh of the local police station said that Rishiraj had died before he was brought to the hospital. At first glance, he suspects that his death was due to a heart attack. SHO Singh said,

"On the 26th, we received information from a private hospital that a person named Rishi Bhatnagar was brought here and declared dead. At around 10:30 pm, he had asked his child to go home and he was going through the lift. Suddenly the lights went off and he panicked. He was worried that his child might have got stuck in the lift as it was dark after the lights went off. Due to this panic, he had some sort of seizure, due to which he fainted. Prima facie, it is being reported that he had probably had an attack."

He adds,

"The cause of death will be clear once the post-mortem report is received. The lift had stopped due to a power outage. The power came back in a minute or three and the child came out safely."

On the same morning, Rishi's wife Parul had kept a fast of Vat Savitri and prayed under a Peepal tree for his long life. But by evening, he left her forever. Three months ago, Rishiraj's father also died of a heart attack.
