A devastating and baffling tragedy has left Nasirpur village, under the Katra Bazaar police station area in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, in a state of profound shock. A teenage couple allegedly ended their lives by hanging themselves from an acacia tree outside the village using a single rope.
The deceased have been identified as 15-year-old Chandni and 17-year-old Umesh. While cases of young couples taking extreme steps due to family opposition are unfortunately common, this particular incident has left both the local community and law enforcement deeply confounded. The families had already officially approved of their relationship and promised to marry them off next year.
From a Family Connection to a Secret Romance
The roots of their relationship trace back six years, when Chandni’s elder sister was married to Umesh’s elder brother, Naresh.
During routine visits to her sister’s marital home, Chandni crossed paths with Umesh, the second of three brothers who worked on his family’s farmland. Over the past year, their casual interactions evolved into a serious, close romantic relationship, sustained through regular conversations on a basic keypad mobile phone.
The Disappearance and the Grim Discovery
On Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 PM, Chandni left her home under the pretext of using the restroom outside. When she failed to return after several hours, her anxious family members launched a frantic search across the village.
The search ended in horror when local farmers discovered the bodies of Chandni and Umesh hanging together from a single noose tied to an acacia branch in an isolated field. According to villagers, the bodies had remained undiscovered on the tree for nearly four hours before the authorities were alerted.
What makes this double suicide an absolute riddle for investigators is the complete absence of family resistance at the time of their deaths.
-
The Mother’s Account: Chandni's mother explicitly stated that while they initially opposed the romance due to their young ages, they eventually gave in. She had personally comforted Chandni, reassuring her that she would be formally wedded to Umesh by next year.
-
The Father’s Layout: Umesh's father echoed this, explaining that the wedding was a certainty. The family simply requested to marry off their eldest son first, with Umesh and Chandni's nuptials scheduled to take place immediately afterward.
With the ultimate obstacle to their love entirely removed, the police are left struggling to understand what triggered the young couple to take such an irreversible step.
Forensic Teams and Dog Squads Deployed
Sensing the sensitive nature and gravity of the case, a heavy police contingent from the Katra Bazaar station rushed to the cordoned site. They were immediately reinforced by a specialized forensic unit and a canine dog squad to sweep the field for any signs of foul play or external struggle.
The Investigation Status
Investigators recovered a basic keypad mobile phone lying on the ground near the tree. Since neither teenager utilized an Android smartphone, forensic data analysts are currently auditing the call logs, SMS history, and network timelines of this phone to uncover their final conversations.
Karanilganj Circle Officer (CO) Abhishek Dawacha confirmed that the bodies have been officially shifted to a mortuary for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. A rigorous, multi-angle investigation is underway to decode the hidden catalyst behind this heartbreaking village mystery.
