Central government employees and pensioners are awaiting an increase in their dearness allowance from the government. Their wait may end before Diwali, the festival of lights. According to reports, a decision in this regard may be made at the next meeting of the Union Cabinet, to be chaired by PM Narendra Modi.

However, the government has not yet provided official information in this regard. Central government employees and pensioners are expected to receive a 3% increase in DA this year. Currently, central government employees receive 60% DA. If the government approves a 3% increase, this increase will reach 63%.

It should be noted that earlier in October 2025, the Modi government had increased the dearness allowance by 3 percent, effective from July 2025. Subsequently, the dearness allowance was raised from 55 percent to 58 percent. It was further increased to 60 percent from January 2026.
