As India continues its global campaign to expose Pakistan’s role in terrorism, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor led an all-party delegation to Colombia to clarify India’s position. However, Tharoor expressed disappointment with the Colombian government’s response, which extended condolences to Pakistan for Indian strikes rather than sympathizing with terrorism victims.
Tharoor said,
"We are a little disappointed that Colombia expressed condolences for loss of life in Pakistan after Indian strikes, rather than showing sympathy for victims of terrorism. Perhaps the situation was misunderstood, but it is vital to recognize that India’s actions are self-defense against terror sponsorship."
He emphasized that India is a force for constructive progress globally and urged countries to pressure Pakistan to stop harboring terrorists, both inside and outside the UN Security Council.
Drawing parallels, Tharoor acknowledged Colombia’s own battles with terrorism and stated,
"There can be no equivalence between those who send terrorists and those who oppose them. India has endured terror attacks for nearly four decades and is only exercising its right to self-defense."
On mediation efforts, Tharoor revealed that while India received calls from senior officials across the US, France, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and others, India is not interested in war but retaliated strictly in response to terror attacks. He noted,
"If Pakistan stops sponsoring terrorism, India will also stop retaliations. No active mediation process has taken place."
Delegation’s Global Outreach
The delegation, including leaders from BJP, Shiv Sena, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Telugu Desam Party, and former Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu, has been visiting 33 countries to engage the international community after the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 innocent people on April 22.
After Pahalgam: Operation Sindoor and Ceasefire
Following the Pahalgam attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, destroying terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with drone and missile attacks, but the Indian Army repelled them effectively. A ceasefire was agreed upon on May 10 after talks between military officials.
