A shocking case has come to light from Kamareddy district, Telangana, where a son allegedly killed his 77-year-old mother by pushing her into the Manjira river. The accused, identified as Arola Balaiya of Bolkapalli village in Pitlam mandal, has been arrested along with his minor accomplice.
Last Thursday, the body of an unidentified elderly woman was recovered from the Manjira river near Bolkapalli. Police later confirmed the deceased as Sayavva, mother of the accused. Acting on credible inputs, the police nabbed Balaiya and the minor at Koyagutta crossroads in Banswada mandal.
During interrogation, Balaiya confessed to the crime. He revealed that his mother was bedridden due to illness and, with no one to care for her, he decided to kill her. On the night of September 8, he took her on his bike to Bolkapalli bridge and pushed her into the river, leading to her death. The bike and two mobile phones used in the incident have been seized.
Balaiya has been remanded to judicial custody, while the minor has been sent to a juvenile home. Police said the accused’s wife had earlier died by suicide, adding further tragedy to the family’s situation.
Superintendent of Police M. Rajesh Chandra commended DSP Vitthal Reddy of Banswada, CI Tirupathaiya of Banswada Rural, SI Venkat Rao of Pitlam and their team for swiftly solving the case.
