If you've filed your ITR for a long time, this information is important. One taxpayer filed their ITR on July 31st and received their refund within 24 hours. But if you haven't received your refund or it's being delayed, you should know the real reason.
According to data displayed on the Income Tax Department's official e-filing portal, more than 60 million returns were filed as of August 4th. Of these, more than 56.5 million ITRs were verified and more than 36.5 million were processed. While a large number of refunds may have been declared by now, some haven't received them yet.
CA Santosh Mishra says that due to non-receipt of refund, the refund from the Income Tax Department often does not reach the account. There are some mistakes in this. The taxpayer's information may be wrong, the account status is not updated or not updated, your refund may get stuck due to non-receipt of mail. Also, if there is a wrong bank account, wrong account number, account is not updated, there is no e-KYC account, then you have to check this information carefully. Some people give closed account numbers. Wrong IFC code, PAN card is not linked to the bank, due to all these reasons the bank cannot pass your refund.
How long does it take to get a refund?
Even if your ITR is processed, the refund isn't credited to your account immediately. Sometimes, refunds are issued within 24 hours. Sometimes, it can take up to 4 or 5 weeks. If the refund isn't received within this timeframe, taxpayers should check email or SMS alert messages from the Income Tax Department to see if they have received any notifications about issues with their tax returns and check the refund status on the Income Tax e-filing portal.
