A shocking incident of violence unfolded inside a law college in Usma village of Tarn Taran district on Monday morning, where a student allegedly shot dead a fellow student before turning the weapon on himself. The incident, captured on CCTV cameras, has raised serious questions about campus security, access to illegal firearms, and the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m., before classes had formally begun. According to police, students were present in classrooms when a male student from Naushera Pannuan entered the room carrying a pistol. CCTV footage shows him walking directly towards the front bench, where 20-year-old Sandeep Kaur was seated with a friend.

After a brief exchange of words, the accused allegedly fired a shot at Sandeep Kaur, killing her on the spot. Within seconds, he reloaded the weapon and shot himself in the head. Both died at the scene, leaving students and faculty in shock.

Possible motive under investigation

Police are probing whether the incident was linked to one-sided or rejected romantic advances, though officials have stressed that no conclusion has been reached. Investigators are examining whether the accused had recently approached the victim and whether a disagreement during the Valentine’s Day period triggered the attack. Police said this angle is being verified through statements, phone records, and digital evidence.

Family recounts last moments

Sandeep Kaur’s family said she had left home in good spirits that morning. Her mother, Harjinder Kaur, said her daughter had lost her father earlier and was supporting a family of six sisters and a younger brother.

“She left the house smiling,” the grieving mother said. “Later, a teacher called and said she was injured. When we reached the college, she was lying in a pool of blood. We were not even allowed near her body.”

Questions over firearm access and security

The incident has triggered concern over how a firearm was brought onto the college campus. Police teams led by ACP Jagbir Singh are investigating whether the pistol was licensed or illegally obtained, and whether it belonged to a family member of the accused.

Authorities are also examining the lack of security checks at the college gate. The campus has been sealed, and forensic teams are analysing CCTV footage and other evidence.
