The political crisis in Tamil Nadu is deepening. Despite meeting the Governor twice, TMK leader Vijay Kumar is still denied permission to take the oath of office. The reason is that TMK lacks a majority and, even after joining forces with the Congress, still lacks a sufficient number of MLAs. In this situation, TMK has threatened to resign all 108 of its MLAs if the DMK or AIADMK attempts to form a government.
TVK said this:
According to media reports, actor Vijay's party has clearly said that despite being the party winning the maximum number of seats, it is not being given a chance to form the government. TVK alleges that DMK and AIADMK are trying to sideline it by colluding. On Friday, Governor R.V. Arlekar refused to allow Vijay to prove majority and said that he does not have enough support. The Governor is asking TVK for letters of support from 118 MLAs. TVK has the support of five Congress MLAs and is in talks with Left parties and other smaller parties. The party is also preparing to go to court.
The DMK is also preparing.
According to reports, the DMK passed four resolutions at its meeting on Friday morning, authorizing party Chief M.K. Stalin to make emergency decisions. Top DMK sources have confirmed that the party is considering an alternative arrangement in which the AIADMK's E. Palaniswami could become chief minister with outside support from the DMK.
