The Indian cricket team, which had a great start to the World Cup, has suffered a major setback in the Super 8s. After an unexpected 76-run defeat against South Africa, the path to the semi-finals has become more complicated for the Suryakumar Yadav-led team. India will play its second Super 8 match against Zimbabwe on February 26th. But just before this crucial match, star finisher Rinku Singh has suddenly left the team. It is being reported that Rinku has left Chennai for his home.
Why did the Indian star suddenly return home?
Following the crushing defeat against South Africa, India's net run rate has dropped to -3,800. Now, to reach the semifinals, India must win both of its next matches (against Zimbabwe and the West Indies). Just winning won't be enough; India will also have to rely on South Africa's performance and win both matches by a significant 'line-height:normal'>
Rinku Singh's departure from the team on the eve of this crucial match against Zimbabwe is a wake-up call for India. According to reports, Rinku's father's health suddenly deteriorated, forcing him to return home immediately. Rinku's father has been battling cancer for the past year. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2025.
According to news agency PTI, Rinku Singh has taken emergency leave due to family reasons. Consequently, he was unable to attend the team's practice session on February 24th. Sources suggest that his participation in the match against Zimbabwe seems unlikely. In such a situation, Team India may consider replacing Rinku with Sanju Samson or Axar Patel in the playing eleven.
