The much-anticipated T20 World Cup 2026 clash between India and Pakistan will go ahead as scheduled on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had announced a boycott of the match under government directives. However, after extensive discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and intervention from several cricket boards, Pakistan has withdrawn its decision, ensuring the game will be played.
ICC representatives Imran Khawaja and Mubashir Usmani recently visited Lahore for talks with PCB officials, with Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam Bulbul also present. These discussions resolved controversies surrounding Bangladesh’s exit from the tournament and highlighted potential financial penalties and other consequences Pakistan could face for not playing. This led to Pakistan softening its stance and confirming participation.
The Pakistan government officially announced the decision on social media, stating that the national team will take the field on February 15. The statement emphasized the importance of maintaining the spirit of cricket and supporting the global tournament. Alongside the ICC, Sri Lanka Cricket, the Emirates Cricket Board, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board also appealed to Pakistan to participate. While Pakistan had made certain demands, the ICC did not accept them, but Bangladesh was reportedly assured of no losses.
This resolution has brought relief and excitement to cricket fans worldwide, as the India-Pakistan fixture remains one of the most thrilling and high-profile matches in international cricket.
