Shweta Tiwari’s Favorite Street Food Is Vada Pav—Here’s How to Make It at Home

Actress Shweta Tiwari is admired for her fitness and youthful appearance, but like many food lovers, she also has a soft spot for delicious street food. The actress recently shared on social media that her comfort food is none other than Mumbai’s iconic Vada Pav.
Often called the "burger of Mumbai," Vada Pav is loved across Maharashtra for its crispy potato fritter, flavorful chutneys, and soft pav. If you want to recreate its authentic taste at home, here’s an easy recipe.

Shweta described herself as a true Mumbaikar and shared that Vada Pav is her go-to comfort food. Whether it's a craving for something spicy or a quick snack, this classic street food is one of her favorites.
Ingredients
For the Vada
- Pav buns (as required)
- Boiled potatoes
- Gram flour (besan)
- Salt to taste
- Finely chopped coriander leaves
- Red chilli powder (optional)
- Oil for deep frying
For the Dry Garlic-Peanut Chutney
- 100 grams roasted peanuts
- Garlic cloves
- 2 teaspoons red chilli powder
- Salt to taste
For the Green Chutney
- Fresh coriander leaves
- Mint leaves
- Green chillies
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Salt
- A little water
Optional: You can also prepare a sweet tamarind-jaggery chutney for extra flavor.
How to Make the Vada
- Mash the boiled potatoes and mix them with salt, chopped coriander, and your preferred spices.
- Shape the mixture into small balls or patties.
- Prepare a thick batter using gram flour, adding a little salt and chilli powder if desired.
- Dip each potato ball into the batter until well coated.
- Deep-fry until the vadas turn golden brown and crispy.
Prepare the Chutneys
Dry Garlic-Peanut Chutney
Grind roasted peanuts, garlic, red chilli powder, and salt into a coarse mixture.
Green Chutney
Blend coriander, mint, green chillies, ginger, garlic, salt, and a little water until smooth.
Assemble the Vada Pav
- Slice the pav in half without separating it completely.
- Spread the green chutney on one side.
- Sprinkle the dry garlic-peanut chutney generously.
- Place the hot, crispy vada inside the pav.
- Add sweet tamarind chutney if you like a sweet and tangy flavor.
