Sawan 2025: There is a mythological belief that in Sawan, Lord Shiva comes to his in-laws' house on earth and removes the troubles of his devotees. This is the reason why in this holy month, devotees perform puja and Jalabhishek to please Bholenath. Sawan is starting from 11 July 2025 this year.

Apart from water, offering Belpatra has special importance in the worship of Lord Shiva, but most of the people offer Belpatra on Shivlinga in the wrong way during worship. Let us know how to offer Belpatra on Shivlinga during Shiva worship in Sawan and what are its rules.

How should the Belpatra be?

• In the month of Saavan, offer three-leafed Belpatra on Shivling. It is necessary to have three leaves otherwise it will be considered incomplete.
• While selecting Belpatra, keep in mind that these leaves should not be torn from anywhere.

Rules for offering Belpatra to Lord Shiva in the month of Saavan

• First of all wash the Belpatra thoroughly with water.
• Belpatra should always be offered upside down, i.e. the smooth surface should be towards the Shivlinga.
• Offer the Belpatra by holding it with the ring finger, thumb and middle finger.
• Hold the middle leaf and offer it to Lord Shiva.
• While offering Belpatra, Tridalam Trigunakaram Trinetram Cha Triyayudham. Sins of three births are destroyed, Bilvapatra Shivarpanam. Chant this mantra.
• Always offer an odd number of Bel leaves on Shivling, i.e. you can offer 1,5,11 or 21 Bel leaves. Write Ram's name or Om on it with sandalwood and offer it to Lord Shiva.

The three-leafed bunch of Belpatra is a symbol of the three gods (Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh) and the three eyes of Lord Shiva. Offering a three-leafed Belpatra to Mahadev brings wealth, happiness and prosperity.

What to do if you don't get Belpatra

Many times Belpatra is not available during the month of Saavan. In such a situation, pick up the Belpatra already offered on Shivling and clean it with water. Then offer it to Lord Shiva. Belpatra offered once can be used again. Belpatra never becomes old.
