Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has revealed a major update about his much-awaited upcoming film. The movie, which was earlier titled Battle of Galwan, will now release under a new name — Matrubhoomi: May War Rest in Peace.
The actor shared the announcement on social media on March 16, confirming that the film’s title has officially been changed. The project has been directed by Apoorva Lakhia and also features Chitrangada Singh in a key role.
Film based on the Galwan Valley clash
The movie is inspired by the 2020 confrontation between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley, a major event in recent India–China border tensions. In the film, Salman Khan portrays Colonel B. Santosh Babu, the Indian Army officer who played a crucial role during the clash.
The film has been generating strong interest among fans ever since it was announced due to its patriotic theme and real-life inspiration.
Song ‘Matrubhoomi’ inspired the new title
Interestingly, Salman had earlier released a patriotic song titled Matrubhoomi from the film on January 24, just ahead of Republic Day celebrations.
The song features vocals by renowned singers Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, with lyrics written by Sameer Anjaan and music composed by Himesh Reshammiya.
Reports suggest that the emotional impact of this song inspired the filmmakers to rename the movie after it.
Release date still unclear
The film was initially expected to hit theatres on April 17, but recent reports indicate that the release may have been postponed. The poster shared by Salman Khan announcing the new title also did not include any release date.
