Central government employees are currently awaiting their Dearness Allowance (DA) for the months of July to December. It's expected that the DA will be increased by 3%. This increase is likely to be for the July-December period. Based on current trends, the government may announce the DA hike around Navratri. This year, Navratri falls in October, so central government employees may receive their salary hike on October 31st.

All eligible central government employees will also receive arrears for the months of July, August, and September. It's worth noting that the current DA for central government employees is 60%. With the 3% increase, the employees' allowance will reach 63%.

Why is there a possibility of a 3% increase in DA?

BankBazaar CEO Adil Shetty explained the current situation, "Based on the current AICPI-IW trend, the maximum DA increase is expected to be 3%. However, the final change will depend on the June AICPI-IW data. While this increase seems small, it helps protect employees' purchasing power from the effects of inflation and provides some relief to family budgets. Until then, this estimate is only an indication, not a final figure."

When will the figures be released?

The Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI) is expected to release the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) and inflation data for June 2026 on Monday, July 13. If this estimate turns out to be correct, the DA of central employees will increase by 3%.

The government typically reviews overall inflation data and current economic factors. Only then are changes to DA announced after Cabinet approval. Once approved, the revised allowances will be effective from July 1st.

Update on the Eighth Pay Commission
Meanwhile, the Eighth Pay Commission has begun the process of submitting its recommendations to the government regarding central government employees. The Pay Commission is required to submit its recommendations to the government within 18 months.
