A deeply distressing incident has come to light from Saharanpur, where a 30-year-old woman and her two minor children lost their lives in what police describe as a suspected suicide linked to prolonged domestic conflict. The incident occurred in the Gagalhedi police station area, leaving the entire locality in shock.
What happened
The deceased woman, identified as Manita, was married nearly nine years ago to Neetu, a resident of Baliyakheri. She was the mother of two children—six-year-old Nitya and four-year-old Kartikeya.
According to information provided by family members, a serious dispute reportedly took place on Thursday involving Manita’s brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and father-in-law. Shortly afterward, Manita allegedly took the extreme step of consuming a poisonous substance along with her children.
When their condition deteriorated, the family informed the police. All three were rushed to a private hospital in critical condition. Manita and her daughter died during treatment late that night, while her son succumbed a few hours later.
Postmortem and legal action
After the deaths, the bodies were shifted to the district hospital mortuary, where postmortem examinations are scheduled to be conducted today.
Upon receiving information, Manita’s maternal family arrived at the hospital and made serious allegations against her in-laws. They accused them of subjecting Manita to continuous physical and mental harassment, claiming this drove her to take the drastic step.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the in-laws. Officials stated that further legal action will depend on the postmortem findings and the evidence collected during the investigation.
Police response
Police authorities confirmed that the case is under active investigation and that all aspects—family disputes, medical reports, and witness statements—are being examined thoroughly.
