Once hailed as India’s most explosive cricketing duo, Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli shared a bond that went far beyond the cricket field. Over the years, while Tendulkar’s career soared, Kambli struggled with personal battles, including health issues and addiction. Despite rumours of a rift, Kambli’s younger brother Virender Kambli has now revealed that Sachin has always been a pillar of support for his old friend.
Sachin’s constant care
In an interview, Virender Kambli disclosed, “Sachin Dada has always stood by Vinod. Their friendship is still strong. He regularly calls Andrea (Vinod’s wife) to ask about his health and well-being. He has always supported our family.”
Virender further said both Sachin and Vinod were equally talented, but fame and fortunes played out differently. “I never heard my brother say he was better than Sachin. Both had equal talent. Their bond of friendship has never weakened.”
Update on Vinod Kambli’s health
Speaking about Vinod’s current condition, Virender shared, “He is at home, doing better than before but still under treatment. He has difficulty speaking and needs more time to recover. But he’s a champion — I believe he will walk, run, and bounce back again. I have full faith in him.”
Kambli’s cricketing journey
Vinod Kambli made his ODI debut in 1991 against Pakistan and played his last international match in 2000. In his career, he scored 1084 runs in 17 Test matches at an average of 54.20, including four centuries. In ODIs, he played 104 matches, scoring 2477 runs with two centuries and 14 half-centuries. His highest Test score remains an iconic 227.
Even today, as Kambli fights health battles, Sachin Tendulkar’s silent yet steady support shows that their friendship is more than cricket—it’s for life.
