RBI Plastic Notes: They won't tear or get wet! Will plastic notes be introduced into the market? What is the RBI's plan?

Plastic notes may soon replace paper notes in India. The RBI is working rapidly on this matter, and the proposal was discussed in a recent boar meeting. This decision may be due to the rising cost of printing paper notes and the widespread wear and tear of these notes. Plastic notes will be cheaper to produce, have a longer life, and will also be compatible with ATM machines. The RBI is planning to launch a pilot project soon to implement this plan.

There is currently talk of introducing plastic notes in India. Several media outlets suggest that these plastic notes will soon be in circulation. According to a report in Business Standard, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is considering the use of polymer notes in India, as demand for polymer notes is growing significantly.

Will polymer notes be better than paper notes?

You may have used paper notes until now. But they tear frequently or wear out quickly. According to sources, the decision to introduce polymer or plastic notes was discussed at the RBI's last two board meetings, held in Patna and Mumbai. It was stated that polymer notes would be produced at a lower cost than paper notes. Furthermore, they would not wear out or tear as quickly. They would last longer. Therefore, the introduction of these notes is being considered.

The new notes will be compatible with these ATMs. That is, the ATM machine is capable of dispensing polymer-based notes. The RBI has the necessary resources to print these notes. The central bank is planning a pilot project for polymer notes, which may be announced in the future, sources said.
