Ravi Shastri Honoured: Stand at Wankhede Stadium to Be Named After Indian Cricket Legend

Indian cricket great Ravi Shastri is set to receive a prestigious honour from the Mumbai Cricket Association. In a major decision taken at the MCA Apex Council meeting, the Level 1 stand at Wankhede Stadium, located just below the press box, will now be named after Ravi Shastri.

Along with this, the MCA has also announced that three gates at the iconic Wankhede Stadium will be dedicated to legendary figures who have made lasting contributions to Indian cricket.

A Tribute to a True Mumbai Cricket Icon

Ravi Shastri has been one of the most influential figures in Indian cricket, excelling as a batsman, captain, coach, and commentator. Representing Mumbai in domestic cricket, Shastri went on to play 80 Test matches and 150 ODIs for India.

His stint as Team India’s head coach (2017–2021) was particularly historic. Under his guidance, India achieved landmark Test series victories in Australia in 2018–19 and 2020–21, and also reached the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Speaking on the decision, MCA President Ajinkya Naik said that Mumbai cricket owes its success to legends like Shastri and that honoring such figures is both a responsibility and a privilege.

Other Legends Also Honoured

Along with Ravi Shastri, the MCA has decided to dedicate three gates at Wankhede Stadium to celebrated sportspersons:

  • Gate No. 5 – Diana Edulji
