In Bollywood, certain films transcend entertainment to become part of cultural and cinematic history. Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic Ramayana appears to be one such project, not only for its scale and star cast but also for a remarkable legacy tied to the Kapoor family.
Ranbir Kapoor is set to portray Lord Rama in the film, and the recently released teaser titled “Ram” has already generated significant excitement among audiences. The film, which also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, is slated for a grand release on Diwali and has been the subject of intense anticipation.
However, what makes this project even more special is a fascinating historical connection. Nearly 92 years ago, Ranbir Kapoor’s great-grandfather, the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor, portrayed Lord Rama in the 1933 film Sita. Directed by Debaki Bose, the film was a landmark production of its time, with Durga Khote playing Sita alongside Prithviraj Kapoor.
This rare coincidence transforms Ranbir’s role into more than just a performance—it becomes a continuation of a family legacy spanning generations. The return of a Kapoor family member to the role of Lord Rama after nearly a century adds emotional depth and historical significance to the film.
Ramayana is being positioned as one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, the film features Yash in the role of Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, further elevating its appeal.
The first glimpse of the film, released on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, has sparked widespread discussion on social media. While many viewers praised its grandeur and visual scale, others noted that it has only heightened curiosity and expectations.
With its blend of mythology, star power, and a unique generational connection, Ramayana is shaping up to be more than just a film—it is a cinematic tribute to legacy and tradition.
